It appeared that injuries were finally going to catch up with the Danville Admirals Friday night as 6A Tates Creek led 24-14 in the 4th quarter.
Danville (7-0) took advantage of a few key Tates Creek mistakes to score two touchdowns and win the game 27-24.
The Commodores hurt themselves, particularly in the 4th quarter, with several damaging penalties. During one Danville drive in the final quarter, Tates Creek had back-to-back 15-yard penalties, including a player ejection, that eventually led to a Don Harris touchdown.
Harris, who was limited by an ankle injury, only carried the ball 11 times for 70 yards in the game. Three of those carries came on the 4th quarter drive that cut the Tates Creek lead to 24-21.
The Admirals then got the ball back after the defense forced a Tates Creek punt. Quarterback Zach Thornton hit David Walker for a 31-yard pass that proved to be the game winner.
Tates Creek fell to 4-2 with the loss. The Commodores will host Madison Central Friday night.
Undefeated Danville will travel to Somerset for a 2A, District 7 battle.
