COLUMBIA, Ky. – The fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team opens up the 2018 season Friday in Jacksonville, Fla. against Edward Waters with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT from University Christian School.
The Blue Raiders finished the 2017 season with a record of 11-1. Lindsey Wilson made its fourth-straight appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series. The Blue Raiders defeated Southeastern (Fla.) in the first round of the playoffs 63-49 before falling to Southern Oregon in the national quarterfinals.
In 2017, Lindsey Wilson averaged 48.2 points and 459.2 yards per game. The Blue Raiders ranked fourth in both total scoring offense (578) and in scoring offense per game (48.2). Senior running back Blake Ingleton returns as the leading rusher from 2017 including being on the All Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division First Team. Last year, Ingleton rushed for 1,022 yards — the second-most yards in a single season in LWC history. This season, Ingleton will have the opportunity to shatter numerous records for the Blue Raiders, including becoming the program’s all-time leading rusher.
The Lindsey Wilson defense will be led by NAIA All-American and MSC Bluegrass Division Defensive Player of the Year Trent Mueller. As a junior last season, Mueller recorded a single-season program record 119 total tackles with six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception.
Edward Waters dropped its season-opener last week after suffering a 15-13 setback to St. Andrews (N.C.). Edward Waters just recently joined the Mid-South Conference last season with six other schools including St. Andrews and Ave Maria, both future Blue Raiders opponents in September.
Live video will be available for the game. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
